Not only is it convenient and user friendly, but it can be sprayed evenly at all angles and has up to 99% product emptying.
How Does Bag on Valve Work?

Bag-On-Valve consists of an aerosol valve with a welded bag.

The product is placed inside the bag while the propellant is filled in the space between bag and can.

The product is dispensed by the propellant simply squeezing the bag when the spray button is pressed, the product is squeezed out of the bag by the compressed air/nitrogen, which creates the dispensing as a spray, cream or gel.

Therefore, your product keeps its integrity, remaining separated from the propellant at all times.

Bag-on-Valve Simplified

1. The Valve of a Bag-on-Valve

  • systems are available with both female and male valves.

2. The Bag

  • FDA-approved laminated aluminum bag (3 or 4 layers depending on product requirements).
  • BOV systems are available in a large range of sizes.

3. The Product

  • BoV systems are suitable for liquid as well as viscous products, such as gels, creams and ointments, in a number of application areas.
  • BoV systems are optimized for oxygen-sensitive and sterile products.

4. The Propellant

  • Because of the separation between product and propellant, BOV can be used with compressed air or nitrogen.

5. The Bag-on-Valve Actuator

  • BoV is available in a large range of standard actuators depending on product demands.

6. The Bag-on-Valve Can

  • Standard aerosol can, aluminum or tin plate (whenever possible the use of aluminum cans is recommended).
  • All sorts of shaped cans can be used with BOV systems. No limitation in marketing solutions.

The Bag-on-Valve Cap Bag-on-Valve systems can be used with many kinds of standard overcaps.

The Technology Behind the BoV Filling Process
The Bag-on-Valve system consists of a rolled-up multi-layered flexible pouch attached to an aerosol valve.

In the production of a BoV product, compressed air or nitrogen is charged into the can, and an aerosol valve with the bag attached is crimped onto the container.

The formulation is forced through the aerosol valve stem to fill the bag.

Finally, the actuator and cap are put in placement.

The Filling Process of a Bag-on-Valve

1. Placing of valve and bag inside the can.
2. Crimping and under cup or through the valve gassing.
3. Pressure control.
4. Product filling in the bag and weight control.
5. Actuator and cap placement.
What Makes the Lamination Films Special?

The barrier laminations used in bag-on-valve typically consist of a four material layer with adhesives in between. Extensive research has gone into developing these laminates and each layer has a specific purpose that guarantees the chemical and mechanical resistance based on the filled product. On the side is a graphic describing the layers of the lamination film used in a typical BOV product.

How Are the Laminates Made?

The bag-on-valve laminated films arrives to the BOV component manufacturers in large rolls. In the bag-on-valve production process, the laminate is folded and welded into a pouch, which is then welded to the aerosol valve. This makes a hermetically sealed BOV package. Each BOV is then leak tested in the production line before being shipped to the customers for product filling.

The laminated films in BOV products from Aurena comes mainly from the leading laminate supplier Amcor. They are today the premier source of laminates for the international BOV-industry.
